Pool Party

Last night we went to the pool for the family fun night they do every year. Lexi's dance class usually dances at it and they did the ribbon dance from their recital. It was fun to watch her dance again and then we got to have fun swimming. That is until some kid pooped in the pool... ahhhh, the public pool.

Friends!

So this week my friend Betsey came down from Hurricane with her 2 girls, Mikayla and Morgan. The girls always have fun playing together... Well, Mikayla is 12 now, so she gets to supervise, lol! Thursday we wanted to take the kids to go do something fun, so we started at Circus Circus and hit the Adventure Dome for some rides. Then we watched the acrobat acts and headed to Planet Hollywood. I always forget how much walking ya have to do down at the strip. We then went to Excaliber for the lunch buffet and then down to the arcade so the girls could play some games and win some tickets and prizes. It was fun and the girls were all really good!!

The Popcorn Kernel...

We had an interesting morning...
We usually go to the free movie at the theater, but today I just didn't feel like taking the kids and we had already seen Alvin and the Chipmunks anyway. So, I told Lexi and Ava that they could watch the movie they had picked out at the library yesterday and we would have our own movie day, just at home. So I made some popcorn and spread out their blankets on the floor and got them all settled. And I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to get some scrapbooking done, so I got out some of my stuff. So time goes on and the movie is almost over and the popcorn is about gone. Ava comes up to me crying and saying, "Nose, nose, nose!" And I thought she just needed a Kleenex or something and I looked at her and did a double take... there was a popcorn seed stuck in her nostril!! So I'm thinking, ok... it's not that far up there, I can totally get it out, no worries. But yeah, she kept sniffing it up further because she was crying! I kept trying to get her to sniff out, but hello... she's 2 and just doesn't get that. So I have Lexi go get my tweezers and I'm trying to pop it out and it's just not working (not to mention I can't keep Ava still)... now I can't even see the thing. So I start freaking out and called Benj at work... he's not in his office, so I call his cell, thank goodness he answered. I tell him what's going on and he says, "Do you want me to come home?" YES!! So he came home and we got the little baby nose sucker thingy and worked on sucking it out. Pretty soon it's at the opening of her nostril and we could pop it out! PHEW!
I saw this kind of thing every now and then working in day care... kids getting beans stuck up their noses or putting stuff in their ears, but we were never allowed to attempt to get it out, you just had to call the parents and let them deal with it. But it's a little different being THE PARENT and having it happen to YOUR child. So yay for daddy for saving the day!

Circus Fun

Yesterday we took the girls to see the circus. I think I was as excited as them! The kids LOVED the animals the most. There were lots of elephants, tigers, horses, etc. I enjoyed the trapeze artists and those guys that ride their motorcycles in the steel ball... AMAZING! There were 7 of them at once and they go so fast! Anyway, I wish we had gotten some better pictures, my camera died toward the end and Benj got a few on his phone. Was it really the "greatest show on earth?" The kids sure thought so!! :)

Happy Father's Day!

The girls have been telling Benj "Happy Father's Day!" all weekend and they finally got to say it on the actual day. :) He was bombarded with cards, pictures and drawings Lexi and Ava had been making for him all week! And he also added another Indiana Jones DVD to the collection. After a steak and potatoes dinner, we had the shirt and tie brownies Lexi and I made. I got the idea from my mom, who found it in a magazine, so I thought I would give it a try. Yeah... I can't draw at all, so everything is a little crooked, but ya get the idea, right?
I also got to talk to my dad today, it was great. I wish we lived closer! But thanks dad for being the best in the world... for the things you taught me, for being an excellent grandpa to my kids! I still look up to you! Happy Father's Day to all you great dads out there!!

Happenings in June...

Well I finally uploaded some pics off the camera and so here's just some of the things we've been up to this month. We finally got some plants/trees for our backyard. Benj stayed up late in the dark digging holes the first week of June. But Lexi got to help dig some too. :) We got a lime tree and a pear tree... I really don't know if they will grow anything, but we got some other plants too (and I don't remember their names).
Anyway, we finally got around to setting up the little pool for the girls. They had a blast in it that first day... And today we went to the community pool for the first time. We have access to a pool (Bret's apartment, thanks guys), but they have cool water features at the public pool. Do you think my girls even went near them? No, not really... And of course we went on a Sat. when it was 103 degrees out and everyone and their brother was there... So I think we'll stick to the private pool.
And last night we went to Lake Las Vegas. We have lived here for over 4 years now and we hadn't even been till yesterday! It really is beautiful out there. I jokingly told Benj we should just go out there for our vacation this year instead of driving somewhere and save on gas. They have restaurants, shops, hotel/condos, and of course the lake. So there would be plenty to do and it's only half an hour away, lol! But on Friday nights they have live bands and so we went and listened to some of the music. The girls had a blast dancing, they didn't even want to leave. So after a little walk around the lake, some Italian sodas, and seeing the fish, we could finally go. But we will go back for sure, it really was a fun night. :)

Emma Smith: My Story

I went to the theater last night and saw the Emma Smith Movie. I was actually quite suprised they were even showing it here in Vegas. I have read some church history, so I was familiar with the Smith Family and their story. But it was so cool to hear it all from Emma's perspective. She was a very strong woman and I don't think I could have handled the hardships and loss she suffered. Watching this movie made me realize how blessed we really are! I'm giving the movie 5 stars and if you get a chance to see it, DO!!

Lake Day!

Since the weather was supposed to be nice (and hot), we talked about going to the lake sometime this weekend. So yesterday we drove up to Lake Mead. The girls love digging in the sand with their shovels and pails and collecting seashells. We took a picnic lunch and did some swimming and got some sun. It was just a nice relaxing way to spend the day! Oh, and hitting that A&W drive thru for milkshakes on the way home wasn't too bad either. ;)
